Asheville, NC - couples getaway

Jake and I heard from multiple friends that we had to go check out Asheville, NC, and we are so glad we did! It has serious Denver vibes with the integration of the outdoors into the city lifestyle. Wanted to share a few of our highlights and where we stayed, which will become a frequent place to lay our heads for sure.

We stayed at Wrong Way River Lodge & Campgrounds and had the best experience. Think urban campground with modern amenities and mountain vibe. It was right across from the French Broad River Greenway and a mile from the River Arts district. Jake and I are busy-bodies when we travel and like to experience as much as we can in a city, but so looked forward to coming "home" to the cabin for rest. It was literally the best of both worlds when it comes to staying in the city and having the respite of camping.

Day 1: White Duck Taco Shop (heavenly!!), sunset e-bike tour through the mountains where we saw THREE bears in a tree, a stop at the historic Grove Park Inn & then a late night stop at Asheville Burial Beer Co.

Side Note: Grove Park Inn is a great spot to host a wedding - peep the "This must be the place" backdrop for wedding guest selfies. We walked through their spa hallway and I could have stayed there for the remainder of the trip!

Second side note: The Grove Park Inn hosts the National Gingerbread Competition every year and you can see the previous year's contenders on display in the inn. they also deck out the place in decorations for the season. For a Christmas person like me, a December stay at the Grove Park Inn is now on my bucket list.

Day 2: Enjoying Wrong Way's amenities of a fresh latte and hanging chairs to start the day, Sierra Nevada Brewery tour & lunch, browsing The Arcade, power nap in the hammock (pro tip: get the deluxe cabin for privacy of the meadow on your porch!), dinner at Asheville Proper, glass of wine and an unbelievable sunset at The Montford, late night treat at French Broad Chocolate Lounge & lastly a little decaf by the campfire. Starting and ending the day in Wrong Way made for the perfect getaway.

Day 3: Hot beignets at Bebettes then a hike in Smokey Mountain National Park, right on the NC/ TN state line.

To say Asheville did not disappoint is an understatement. It's the perfect place for a couple's unplug weekend, week-long stay for hiking and outdoor adventures and even would make a great corporate team retreat.
